In his case he had an important computer program for a new type of defence satellite which he was taking to Japan. He had picked it up from a research station in the desert the day before. Now he was in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Once again he paused in front of a shop window as though he was admiring something, then glanced over his shoulder before continuing down the street. The two men were still following him, that was certain. Bill recognized the one with a beard. He put his hand inside his case and felt the flat box containing the computer program - it was safe with him. He wondered whether Bill had managed to escape. And what a curious hotel it was! They found themselves next to a bathroom at the bottom of a flight of twelve stairs. They ran up the stairs into the room. The room was empty. Was this a trick? There was nowhere to hide. The window was open but it was not possible to climb out of the window because it was too high. They turned round and stood in the middle of the room, completely astonished. Twelve more steps led up to another door, on the other side of which was Room 511. They looked at each other and shook their heads.
