2000多年前，中国汉代的先辈，穿越草原沙漠，开辟出联通亚欧非的陆上丝绸之路；中国明代的先辈，穿越惊涛骇浪，闯荡出连接东西方的海上丝绸之路。 译文：Over 2,000 years ago, Chinese ancestors of Han Dynasty , passing through (trekking across) vast grasslands and deserts, opened the transcontinental passage connecting Asia, Europe and Africa, known today as the Silk Road. Chinese ancestors of Ming Dynasty, navigating rough seas, created sea routes linking the East with the West, namely, the maritime Silk Road.
古丝绸之路绵亘万里，延续千年，积淀了以和平合作、开放包容、互学互鉴、互利共赢为核心的丝路精神。这是人类文明的宝贵遗产。历史是最好的老师。历史告诉我们：文明在开放中发展，民族在融合中共存。
译文：Extending across(Spanning) thousands of miles and years, the ancient silk routes embody the spirit of peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit. The Silk Road spirit has become a great heritage of human civilization. History is our best teacher. This part of history shows that civilization develops with openness and nations co-exist through exchange.
从现实维度看，我们正处在一个挑战频发的世界。多年的战争、缺乏新动力的世界经济，增大的贫富差距鸿沟，是摆在全人类面前的最严峻的挑战。 译文：In terms of reality, we find ourselves in a world filled with challenges. Wars of many years, no new drivers to global economy, the increasing gap between the rich and the poor give rise to (create) the severest challenge to mankind.

The building of the Belt and Road is deepening policy connectivity, enhancing infrastructure connectivity, increasing trade connectivity, expanding financial connectivity and strengthening people-to-people connectivity.
