英语中的倒装
一、概述
英语中的倒装句分为全部倒装和部分倒装。全部倒装是指将全部谓语放在主语之前;部分倒装是指只将助动词或情态动词提到主语前。例如:
Here comes the bus.(全部倒装)Never does he come to school late.(部分倒装)
二、全部倒装
1. There be结构及其衍生结构(与live, remain, exist, stand, lie, happen等动词连用)
Long long ago there lived a king who loved horses very much.
There happened to be nobody in the bedroom when the fire broke out.
There lies a large field of grassland in front of the village.
2. Then/Now引起谓语动词为come, follow的句子
Then came a new problem.
Then followed eight years of the Anti-Japanese War.
Now comes your turn.
3. 以方位副词here, there, out, in, up, down, away等开头的句子
Look! Here comes the bus.
There goes the bell.
The door opened and in came Mr. Smith, the artist.
Out rushed the children.
Down came the water from the top of the mountain.
注:代词作主语时不要倒装。例如:
Here it is! Here you are! Here he comes!
4. 以地点状语开头的句子
In the south of the city lies a big steel factory.
Among the children sat their teacher, telling them a story.
5. 系表结构中,由于表语提前而引起的倒装句(尤用于主语过长的情况) ①形容词作表语
Present at the party were a group of young people who called themselves pioneers of modern art.
②分词作表语
Seated under the tree was John, who is a friend of mine.
Gone are the days when they could do whatever they liked to the Chinese. ③介词短语作表语
Among the goods are Christmas trees, flowers, candles and toys.
6. 直接引语
“I would like to go back to see the garden.”said my aunt.
三、部分倒装
1. 以so/neither/nor开头的句子,表示后者的情况与前者一致
He did not like the painting. Neither/Nor did I.
He has been to Beijing. So have I.
2. 以否定词never, no, neither, not, nor, seldom, hardly, few, little及其短语开头的句子
Never in my life have I seen such wonderful pictures.
Not a word did he say about his visit to the art museum.
Seldom/Little does he paint now.
Hardly can he solve the problem by himself.
At no time during the tour did I feel bored.
In no case should we give up.
注1:某些由否定短语引起的倒装句已经成为了固定结构,成为高考热点。 ①neither…nor… (既不……也不……)
Neither am I impressed by the paintings nor do I like them.
②not only…but (also)…(不仅……而且……)
Not only is he good at study but he also has a wide range of hobbies.
③not until……提前结构
Not until he failed did he realize his mistake.
④hardly/scarcely…when…(一……就……)
Hardly/scarcely had the thief seen the police when he ran away.
⑤no sooner…than…(一……就……)
No sooner had the thief seen the police than he ran away.
注2:no matter引起的从句不要倒装。
3. 以Only开头的状语提前引起的倒装
Only then did I realize the importance of English.
Only in this way can you make progress in your English.
Only when the war was over in 1918 could he get back to school.
4. 让步状语从句中,as引起的倒装(表语/状语/动词原形+as+其他) Clever as he is, he doesn’t study very well.
Child as he is, he knows a lot.
Try as he would, he might fail again.
Hard as he tried, he didn’t succeed.
5. so…that…结构中,so在句首引起的倒装
So carelessly did he drive that he almost killed himself.
So loudly did he speak that people in the next room could hear him.
6. 在if引导的虚拟条件句中,如果出现助动词should, were, had,可以将之,提前省略if
Should you have gone on the trip, you would have learnt a lot about painting. Were the picture unique, it would be valuable.
Had the museum been closed, we would have been upset.
